Rehouse a radio into a body transforming the interaction to expresses the existence of objects while not in their presence.

We imagine that o bjects exist in our lives to serve us. But how do they continue to live when we are not using them, what were they like before we accquired them? What if the form of objects implied change in its natural state of being when used, disruption even.

Considerations: Radios transform intangible waves into meaning. These waves surround us but only when we choose to focus and try to listen are we able to tune in.

Constraints: An object which does not exist only to wait on us does not mean that it is painful to use. Perhaps it should have characteristics that are unatural or must be compromised to be used, signalling that its natural state is not one which humans are involved in. What percent of an object’s life are humans actually involved directly in?

Process

Borrowing from a rock laying on grass or a hand dragged through moving water, the motion and stress contained in thin slivers of paper attracted me. I continued to explore forms which aligned with the narrative of disruption when used. The natural elacity of paper aided in this as well allowing the paper to snap back to shape after being altered.

There is no creation without descruction, the radio must go.

And thus began prototying and the making process...
Harvesting electronics, resoldering to extend length, replacing rotating potentiometer with a sliding pot.

Key Takeaways:

- Paper although simple, contains potential for mastery of craft and mistakes, impatience,  or unfamiliarity are easily noticable
- wow, taking actually good process photos makes putting everything back together a lot easier
- drawing is good and very helpful, but we all knew that.

Inactive and active states.
